Course Description
Stepping into management is one of the biggest shifts in anyone’s career — success stops depending only on your own output and starts depending on the output of others. This course gives new and aspiring managers a practical foundation: what the role actually involves, how to lead people well, how to manage performance fairly, how to run day-to-day operations, and how to build a healthy team culture.
It is written to apply across industries and team types, so it can be used as a standalone onboarding course for anyone moving into a first management role, or adapted with organisation-specific policies, tools, and examples.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Describe how the manager’s role differs from an individual contributor role, and avoid common first-time manager mistakes.
- Apply core people-leadership skills: understanding team members, communicating clearly, and delegating effectively.
- Set clear goals and expectations, give constructive feedback, and address underperformance fairly.
- Plan and prioritise work, run effective meetings, and apply a simple framework for decisions and problem-solving.
- Build a healthy team culture, apply fairness and ethics in everyday decisions, and support wellbeing for themselves and their team.
