Lesson 5.1 — Building Team Culture
This closing module covers the manager’s role in shaping team culture, acting fairly and ethically, and protecting wellbeing — including their own.
Team culture is built less by what a manager says and more by what a manager consistently does and tolerates. Every decision — who gets recognised, what behaviour gets corrected, what gets ignored — sends a signal.
- Recognise good work publicly and specifically, not just generically.
- Address behaviour that undermines the team quickly, even when it’s uncomfortable.
- Model the standards you expect — teams rarely exceed their manager’s own behaviour.
